Actor Willem Dafoe is quoted
as saying, “Great theatre is about challenging how we think and encouraging us
to fantasize about a world we aspire to.” Two Castleberry High School theatre
students are aspiring to greater things. With the support of the District and
Campus level administrators, Senior Mariah S. and Junior Skylar P. traveled
with CISD theatre teachers Christian and Stephanie Sanders to Houston to attend
the Texas Educational Theatre Association’s annual Theatre Fest Conference. Both
young ladies performed monologues for adjudicators from about 50 colleges and
universities. They both made callbacks for several schools. While there they
also attended sessions with other students from all over Texas and were able to
see programs from across the state and the country.
Mariah
was 1 of only 100 seniors, and Skylar was 1 of only 39 juniors who earned a
spot to audition at the festival. The students have already
received several verbal offers for scholarships and are looking forward to
sharing the knowledge gained at the workshops with their fellow theatre
students.
