Theatre Fest Conference

Actor Willem Dafoe is quoted as saying, “Great theatre is about challenging how we think and encouraging us to fantasize about a world we aspire to.” Two Castleberry High School theatre students are aspiring to greater things. With the support of the District and Campus level administrators, Senior Mariah S. and Junior Skylar P. traveled with CISD theatre teachers Christian and Stephanie Sanders to Houston to attend the Texas Educational Theatre Association’s annual Theatre Fest Conference. Both young ladies performed monologues for adjudicators from about 50 colleges and universities. They both made callbacks for several schools. While there they also attended sessions with other students from all over Texas and were able to see programs from across the state and the country.
Mariah was 1 of only 100 seniors, and Skylar was 1 of only 39 juniors who earned a spot to audition at the festival. The students have already received several verbal offers for scholarships and are looking forward to sharing the knowledge gained at the workshops with their fellow theatre students.
